SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE CHARTS
In Astrology, an astrological Southern Hemisphere chart for a Southern Hemisphere location (latitudes South of the Equator) depicts the Ascendant, or Rising Sign on the Right.
Primary Direction, the Sun moves from East to West, via the Medium Coeli (MC, Midheaven), and West to East via the Imum Coeli (IC, Nadir).
In the Southern Hemipshere, when standing outside in the day, facing North, the Sun rises on your Right, and sets on your Left. At night-time a Full Moon would appear on your Right, when facing North, as the Sun would have set in the West, on your Left, below the horizon. A Full Moon in the early morning would be seen on the Left, when facing North, because the Sun would be rising on the Right. The Sun and Moon are in Opposition to each other for the Sun to illuminate the Full Moon.
In the astrological chart, Primary Direction is the Sun rising at the Ascendant – on the Right in a Southern Hemisphere chart, (on the Left in a Northern Hemisphere chart), climbing through the Houses: 12th, 11th, 10th, via the MC, 9th, 8th, and 7th Descendant, where it sets; and then through the 6th, 5th, 4th, via the IC, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st Houses, where it rises across the Ascendant again. Primary Direction is depicted in an astrological chart as anti-clockwise for the Southern Hemisphere – (clockwise for the Northern Hemisphere).
Secondary Direction, however, the Houses and Tropical Zodiac Signs are depicted in the opposite direction in the astrological chart as clockwise for the Southern Hemisphere – (anti-clockwise for the Northern Hemisphere).
