All Astrological Charts for the Southern Hemisphere (Ascendant on the Right) and Northern Hemisphere (Ascendant on the Left) published by Cigno Astro on this Website, for Clients’ Reports, Certificates, and in Cigno Astro’s Books, or other Publications, and Social Media, are from the free, open-source Astrology software ‘Planetdance’, with express written permission obtained from its owner Jean Cremers in the Netherlands, who was the first person who successfully developed a computer software module that could generate astrological charts for the Southern Hemisphere (Ascendant on the Right), following testing, with his break-through on 13 August 2025.
Why are these Charts so important? Simple. We live, breathe, stand beneath, and observe the skies in our Observatories, in the Southern Hemisphere!
It stands to reason, that we want to interpret what we see in real-time (SH). Not what we must imagine (NH).
It is bad enough, and for too long already, that we are restricted to a 2D chart limitation visually, when we should be thinking and interpreting 3D, with declinations, and many other considerations, to take Astrology into the future!
Perhaps, one day, we will pull up a 3D hologram Chart, and be able to understand much more than what we do today…!

Don’t get Cigno Astro wrong – Deborah-Anne Swanepoel is not an Astronomer, who applies for observation time at the 1.9m Telescope with its Long-slit spectrograph (SpUpNIC), High-speed imaging camera (SHOC), or High-speed photo-polarimeter (HIPPO), nor at the 1.0m Telescope with its SAAO CCD Imaging Cameras (STE3/STE4), and High-speed imaging camera (SHOC), nor at Lesedi with its High-speed imaging camera (SHOC), Wide-field imaging camera (Sibonise), and Low-resolution slit-spectrograph & imager (Mookodi), nor IRSF, PRIME, or SALT, at Sutherland.
Deborah-Anne Swanepoel is a Southern Hemisphere Astrologer, and the point we are making with this beautiful Sutherland image, is to bring home, that we in South Africa are in a unique position, similarly people living in Chile, Argentina, New Zealand and Australia, all who live South of the Equator, observe the Southern Skies, – a vantage point which is unique and privileged – why should we not view it the same way in our Astrology?
Many South African Astrologers have said, “I don’t think I can adjust my mind” from what they have been taught by Northern Hemisphere Astrologers, when looking at a Southern Hemisphere chart (Ascendant on the Right). In their defense, there had never been a computer software developer before willing to design a module that could generate these Southern Hemisphere charts. Yet, it is not that difficult to wrap your mind around.
The answer is simple – just look up at the sky!
It is not that complicated when you think, as a South African, I watch the Sun rise on my Right when I stand outside facing North. I see a Full Moon on my Right, when facing North, when the Sun sets on my Left. A Full Moon in the early morning would be seen on the Left, when facing North, because the Sun would be rising on the Right. The Sun and Moon are in Opposition to each other for the Sun to illuminate the Full Moon.
Contact Cigno Astro if you would like to see your own personal Astrological Birth Chart as a Southern Hemisphere chart.
Frame it!
As Astrologers, we can be really excited about this – Astrology, a 5000 year old history, is not dying, it is moving forward – in the correct – Primary (East to West via the Medium Coeli (MC, Midheaven), and West to East via the Imum Coeli (IC, Nadir)), and in the correct (Houses and Zodiac signs) Secondary – “direction!” Excuse the pun!
(Note: the Astrological chart above is an inception chart for South Africa’s birth as a democracy, and is what Mundane Astrologers use to analyse the Political shifts and changes in the Country.)
